Bachelor of Applied Science
The mission for the Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) in Fire Science Management degree is to educate, train, and develop successful leaders to manage the ever-increasing complexities of a fire department. The program is based on the recommended core curriculum established by the National Fire Academy and represents a balance between theory and practice that enhances the educational experiences and employment potential for students. The program emphasizes advanced fire science technical skills, administrative and management skills, and critical skills in communication, quantitative analysis, and organizational/systems understanding.
Program Requirements
To meet the minimum requirements for consideration for acceptance to the B.A.S. in Fire Science Management program, applicants must:
- Submit a bachelor’s degree application to Dr. Debra Mertz, South Campus.
- Satisfy the B.A.S. general admission requirements.
- Have earned an A.S. degree in Fire Science Technology (2911).

Requirements Fire Science Management Foundation
Credit Hours: 21 Fire Science Management Specialization

Credit Hours: 3 Foreign Language Requirement
Bachelors degree-seeking students must meet a foreign language requirement prior to graduation. Students may fulfill the requirement by completing eight semester hours of the same foreign language or sign language or by passing two years of the same high school foreign language with a grade of “C” or higher, then submitting a high school transcript to their degree program. Also, appropriate College Level Examination Program (CLEP) level one and two scores in French, German, and Spanish will be accepted.
Courses are offered in Chinese (CHI 1120 and CHI 1121), French (FRE 1120 and FRE 1121), Spanish (SPN 1120 and SPN 1121), and German (GER 1120 and GER 1121) that fulfill this eight semester hours requirement. Students may use American Sign Language I and II (ASL 1140 and ASL 1150) to satisfy foreign language requirements. Writing and Mathematical Skills Requirement
